# Never get shut down

> What happens when your credits run out, and the three settings that keep your infrastructure online at all times.

## Without automatic payment

Only your credits pay for usage. **Your infrastructure is shut down 2 hours before your credits run out.** The **Budget** page tells you when, for example: “Without automatic payment, your infrastructure will be shut down tomorrow around 2 p.m., 2 hours before your credits run out. Top up before then to avoid it.”

If the period goes over your monthly limit, your services are shut down too.

## With automatic payment

Your infrastructure is never shut down: anything beyond your credits is charged to your payment method at the end of the period, even if a payment is late. If the monthly limit is exceeded, your services stay online.

## The three settings

As long as automatic payment is off, the **To never be shut down** card on the **Budget** page shows what's missing:

1. **Payment method**: a card or a SEPA account.
2. **Automatic payment**: to turn on.
3. **Spending limits**: to check.

**Turn on automatic payment…** walks you through the three steps. Nothing is turned on until you click **Turn on**. See [Credits and automatic payment](https://docs.fransys.cloud/en/budget/credits-et-paiement-automatique/).

## Nothing is running

If no machine is running, your credits are untouched: they're only used while servers are running, by the hour.
