Scaling and AutoPilot

Fransys offers two approaches for managing your cluster capacity: AutoPilot mode (automatic) and Manual mode. You can switch between them at any time via the cluster configuration.

AutoPilot mode

AutoPilot is the recommended scaling mode. Once activated, Fransys automatically adjusts your cluster resources based on load:

  • Scale up — Adding nodes when demand increases (traffic spikes, new block deployments)
  • Scale down — Removing nodes when load decreases (to reduce costs)

Configuration

In AutoPilot mode, the only parameter to define is the maximum monthly budget (in euros). Fransys optimizes the cluster composition within this envelope:

  • Automatic selection of the most suitable node types
  • Intelligent workload distribution
  • Respect of the defined budget ceiling

When to use AutoPilot

  • You're getting started on Fransys and don't want to size manually
  • Your load is variable or unpredictable
  • You want to optimize the cost/performance ratio without intervention

Manual mode

Manual mode gives you full control over your cluster composition. You define the node pools yourself: how many nodes, of what type (CPU, RAM).

Node pools

A node pool is a group of nodes sharing the same type (hardware configuration). You can have multiple pools in the same cluster to mix different machine types.

For each pool, you choose:

  • The type — Number of CPUs (shared or dedicated), amount of RAM
  • The number of nodes in the pool

When to use Manual mode

  • You have specific sizing requirements (compliance, benchmarks)
  • You want to control exactly the allocated resources
  • You have a stable and predictable load

Modify scaling on an existing cluster

From the cluster list, click the menu then Edit config to:

  • Switch between AutoPilot and Manual modes
  • Adjust the maximum budget (AutoPilot)
  • Add, modify, or remove node pools (Manual)

Changes are applied progressively without service interruption.

tip

You can start with AutoPilot mode and switch to Manual mode at any time if your needs change — and vice versa. No data is lost when changing modes.
