Never get shut down

What happens when your credits run out, and the three settings that keep your infrastructure online at all times.

Checked against the console on 23 Oct 2026

Only your credits pay for usage. Your infrastructure is shut down 2 hours before your credits run out. The Budget page tells you when, for example: “Without automatic payment, your infrastructure will be shut down tomorrow around 2 p.m., 2 hours before your credits run out. Top up before then to avoid it.”

If the period goes over your monthly limit, your services are shut down too.

Your infrastructure is never shut down: anything beyond your credits is charged to your payment method at the end of the period, even if a payment is late. If the monthly limit is exceeded, your services stay online.

As long as automatic payment is off, the To never be shut down card on the Budget page shows what’s missing:

  1. Payment method: a card or a SEPA account.
  2. Automatic payment: to turn on.
  3. Spending limits: to check.

Turn on automatic payment… walks you through the three steps. Nothing is turned on until you click Turn on. See Credits and automatic payment.

If no machine is running, your credits are untouched: they’re only used while servers are running, by the hour.
